MARLBOROUGH, Mass. , Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- - www.skinnerinc.com - On February 2, 2009, Skinner, Inc., one of the nation's leading auction houses for antiques and fine art, will move from its long-time Bolton gallery to a new, state-of-the-art facility located at 274 Cedar Hill Street in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The 69,000 square foot space will house the company's corporate offices, suburban auction gallery, and property warehouse. Situated on five acres just north of the junction of Interstate 495 and the Massachusetts turnpike, the Marlborough gallery is approximately three times the size of Skinner's former location in Bolton, accommodating more room for staff, greater storage for property, and parking for over 200 cars.
"The move to this new facility has been planned since early Fall 2008, and we're very excited to finally call Marlborough home," notes Karen Keane, CEO and president of Skinner, Inc. The first auction to be held in Marlborough will be Skinner's February Discovery auction, featuring Country Americana, slated for February 26, 2009 at 10 a.m. The Marlborough location will feature Skinner's monthly Discovery auctions, as well as auctions of Science/Horology and Toys & Dolls. Skinner's Boston gallery will remain as the company's primary location for its wide array of fine specialty auctions.
Closely following on the heels of this move, Skinner also plans to launch a new live online bidding applet on its own website, www.skinnerinc.com. Skinner's live bidding applet will enable bidders to compete for auction items in real-time online without leaving the Skinner website. The live bidding applet is currently being beta-tested and will be officially launched later this spring. This applet, combined with Skinner's recently redesigned website providing enhanced content and functionality, gives online buyers a better auction experience at Skinner.
Continues Keane, "With Skinner's move to Marlborough and our online bidding applet, we hope to expand our ability to market the Skinner brand to a broader range of auction buyers and consignors."
