PORTLAND, Maine, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- A case of mistaken identity sent Donald Verger to jail over a period of three days at the start of the New Year. Even before the charges were dismissed, Verger was compelled to turn his experience into something positive.

About Donald Verger, Photographer, Naturalist, Philanthropist
Donald Verger is a critically acclaimed photographer and naturalist, most widely recognized for his over 40,000 dramatic images of Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth Maine. He is also acknowledged for his over 6,000 images of Nubble Lighthouse during the Patriot's Day Storm of 2007. Verger's stunning New England landscape photography is highly notable for its quiet, ethereal beauty as evidenced in his iconic image "Dawn of Peace." Verger donated his most popular image "Dawn of Peace" and companion image "Spirit" to raise $2,000 for UNICEF. Both photos were taken at 30 degrees below zero temperatures at dawn, overlooking Thompson Lake in Otisfield, Maine, just before the equinox in December of 2004.
Donald Verger is Founder and President Emeritus of the world-renowned Children's Discovery Museum and Science Discovery Museum in Massachusetts. His visionary work at these discovery museums was featured in two episodes of the PBS series "Curious George." A graduate of Phillips Academy and Clark University, Verger has served on numerous boards including Chairperson of UNICEF's New England Advisory Board, along with members U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy and Arnold Hiatt. He also has served on the board of directors for Wheelock College and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and on the advisory board for the Massachusetts Cultural Alliance. All of Verger's philanthropic work benefits families and children.
Recognized for its spiritual and healing qualities, Donald Verger's nature photography is on display in permanent, rotating galleries at Mercy Health System of Maine's new Fore River Hospital and The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, both located in Portland.
