Davidson is a renowned American photographer who has dedicated his life to documenting the tenderness and courage of human life. Davidson took these photos in partnership with CareOregon to help illustrate the lives of people who are covered by CareOregon.

"I have devoted many years of my life to capturing the essence of substantive issues across the nation, and felt this was yet another opportunity to show the positive influence these plans have on the people they serve," said Bruce Davidson.

ACAP's Safety Net Health Plans, which include CareOregon, have made great strides in improving health care efficiency and quality for low-income, vulnerable individuals. With greater use of health plans in Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care has the potential to save upwards of $83 billion over the next 10 years, according to research sponsored by ACAP.

"We felt it is important to show the public how our plans affect the many lives Medicaid serves across the United States," said Margaret Murray, CEO of ACAP. "And what better way to tell our story than with these astonishing photos Mr. Davidson has captured on our behalf."

ACAP is a national trade organization representing 42 nonprofit Safety Net Health Plans that serve more than 6 million individuals in Medicaid, Medicare, SCHIP, and other public health programs. ACAP's mission has always been to represent and strengthen not-for-profit Safety Net Health Plans as they work in their communities to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable populations. CareOregon is a not-for-profit organization committed to improving and protecting the health of low-income and vulnerable Oregonians.

A special reception featuring remarks by Bruce Davidson and Senator Ron Wyden will take place at the Russell Senate Building, Room 385, on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (remarks will be made around 5:15 p.m.) The photos will be on display at the Russell Senate Building Rotunda from Feb. 9-13, 2009. By displaying pictures of actual CareOregon members, ACAP hopes to put a face to Safety Net Health Plans.
